From: "Elegy of Metaphors"

like fire lights inside chasms of burnt orange
melodic, transcending; sunrise in a whirlwind
escape; freethinking with a notion of cynicism and fault
take it back, cardinal, and give a new face to the ashes here
volcanic and incredible
wishing on sunlit skies, jetted by, and passing strange
this masquerade of ours
erupting into a molten mess of monarch butterflies
tinged in burnt orange and black
fly away and take wing into the sea of setting suns
volcanic was the ending

and from that, the island sprung

Liquid Silence

"Liquid Fire"

Pin me down
and set fire to these bones
let it rage on
til I'm unknown
settle into me
and stifle all my moans
let it all go on
until I have shown
ecstasy
like liquid fire through my veins
purity
in form, no lies, no constrains
eruption in flames

"Leave Me Be in Silence"

no such thing that i have known since then
shall tell me of what a man knows not
and when
when i know i'll tell you so
if every incantation formed by these lips
should stutter out the weight of all, of
all of this
i know not to make it so
my memories in my dreams are overun
and time tells nothing in my solitude
that i've begun
erasing what i knew
no such thing that i had known since then
or will or what i might have shown to
any men
i cannot make it so
leave me be
silence............silence is all i ask and no questions
he was there like a ghost; no illusions
no such thing that i have known since then
shall tell me of what they know not
and if
if i could tell it so
if every wish from my wishing lips
should have fallen with the weight of all,
of all of this
i may never make it, oh
my memories of him in dreams are overun
and time tells nothing in my solitude
that i've begun
erasing what i knew
in a bottle; no such thing i'll ever know again
or will or what i might know from any
other men
i cannot make it so
leave me be
in silence........silence

Wake or Break in Wind

"Break in Wind"

So strange, this time
it's like a shadow fist took out my mind
and I've gone blind
for a time
So wrong, our end
it's like whirlwind took away my only friend
should I bend
or break in wind?
Where do dreamers go to face head on their end?
I can't speak in the cold air
the leaves are falling, trees weeping everywhere
and I should care
but it's unfair how my mind is blank and I can't share
the way I faired
when we had erred
and who was scared
but I?

"Over and Done and Broken"

Bastard, you took me down for what?
I'm tired of sad poetry and giving up
I'm tired of trying when it's never enough
I'm tired when the road is always rough
Where the hell is my ending that is labeled with "happy"?
Where the hell is the top of this blasted hill?
I am over and done and broken and still
I keep attempting to be what they want me to be

Bastard, you broke my heart just because
It hurts like hell, but trust me it always does
I'm tired of aching inside with broken trust
like my soul is escaping, my whole life a bust
and there's no damn happy ending in sight anywhere
Where the hell is the top of this blasted hill?
I'm over and done and broken and still
I keep attemtping to try to love and to care
For what?
I don't know....
....I don't know

"Wake Yourself"

Ever greet the day with strange nostalgia?
Find it hard to wake yourself from reveries
And wishing that you lived in memories?
Triumphant that the day is not longer
Because its hard enough to focus when awake
Wishing for just a moment you could take
A step back in time

Midnight Spider

"Midnight Clarity"

Why does it seem clarity is an after midnight thing
where you're forced to face the fact
the one you want doesn't want you back,
and the one you need you just don't want?
You're dodging bullets like an elephant
and you're feeling pain you let yourself feel
by chasing things that just weren't real.
There are no midnight unicorns,
just wishes dressed as horses wearing horns

"Spider In The Rain"

Why does it seem I'm hateful and I'm wasted on you now?
You say I'm such a wrong one, tell me oh, tell me how
because I see it like this: I been begging on these knees
for some porridge or a pot of money making beans
and I need some institution that can fix my troubled mind
oh, tell me why you think I've been unkind?
Lately, I been scrambling like a spider in the rain
hurrying to save my web and stop all my pain
You think I am hateful and I am the mean one
but you are not offering me anything now, hun
So tell me I am the wrong one when I'm barely here
hanging on by a single thread caught inside of fear
I need a magic bush to grant me daily bread
and a genie bottle love, to save me from my dread
I need an institution to fix my troubled mind
but you are telling me I am never kind
I been down and I been hurt and scared
With my luck, how would you have faired?
I been scrambling like a spider in the rain
tangled, caught, and out of luck; insane

No More Anymore

my love was - sought for
like a lover but done for
I am unwitting and I am sore
but who says, oh who says more?

should she linger?, no - she shan't now
does his finger hold the power now?
did the dam break the new day?
oh, come again, oh come what may

E'r the dawning comes like cold rain
awash our souls in the bitter pain
does it hurt now? something says yes
and burns the soul as it aches the chest

my love was - just a wish
like I spent time awaiting a wish
to be born from the edge of this
in an escaping sigh or a kiss

shall they linger?, no - they should not
let them wander or lost or become forgot
like a day, or dawn, or a ray, or gone -
said the silence, said the silent dawn
in a whimper, or a whisper, or a song
she said come what may, come along
Oh, be still, oh unsure, but tarry on
and wait for the rain to be gone
linger just enough 'til the dawn

my love was - silence now
to be burnt in my flesh how?
Like a live wire, a lightning bolt of pain
should I let it mark and scar and remain?
I am unwitting and I am sore
and I do not want this anymore

           no,
I cannot want it at all  - no, no more
no, I cannot want it anymore

Common Anchor

"Rarity Is Not Common"

There you are building a castle in the sand
when you could have built the greatest stone mansion in the land
There you go claiming you found your wishing star
when all you did was capture a firefly inside a jar
Silly fool, you think you know it all now, don't you?
Justify what you did to her so you can prove
you weren't the fool, you weren't wrong
like you were the victim there all along
There you are claiming you found a pot of gold
but I see corn in a barrel now rotten and old
So go ahead and prance around like you're the wise
and I'll await the day you finally realize
You traded rarity for something common

"Sinking by an Anchor"

martyrdom
I will go down with this
drown by this
or be consumed by it
my pendulum
is knocked down by this
do I exist
beyond any of it?
I will hold on to this love like an anchor to sink me now
and drown in the bottom of the sea I made for you and me
I in my back and forth have fallen deeper still
with no thought of letting go; no strength of will
martyrdom
For this cause I will die by this
drowning bliss
to be consumed by it
my pendulum
is knocked down by this
I do not exist
beyond any of it
I am only knots and strings tied to this sinking thing
taking me down and down in the sea I made for you and me
I in my back and forth have fallen deeper still
with no thought of letting go, no, I never will
No, I never will

Shiver White Moth

"Paint it White"

Burn my retinas
in a startling white
paint my horizon
and cover that light
the color that comes again
each setting night
and reminds me of a friend
so paint it white
paint it white, white, white
and burn it bright
until finally
I go blind

:::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Moths Corrupt"

Too many months and holes appear
the moth ate the clothes hanging here
so little holes let in the cold
let in the light
and now look old
Too many months and moths corrupt

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Shiver"

Shiver but no cover
no lover, no guide, no guardian
no feather for a pillow filled with stones
no leg to stand upon on your own
Shiver but no shelter
no helper, no friend, never someone
no pitcher for your water to quench your thirst
no one to hold is just the worst
So you shiver and you shake
laying there wide awake
dreaming of a lover or a friend
a helper or a healer a guardian
Shiver on your own because you chose it
Funny how shivering was not your wish

Wealth of Coffins

"Tiny Coffins"

Take the items and pack them
tight, pack them small
and pack them all
Label them and stack them
high, stack them tall
just stack them all
and like tiny coffins inside a cemetery
you will line them up inside perfectly
and one by one you mark them off
and wait until you can
hold them again

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Wealth of the Deep"

She longed for the sea like a bird longs for sky
and dreamed of the clouds as they'd roll by
as she'd sit on the shore and sing to herself
of the boundless wealth of the deep
She longed for the sea like a mermaid would
wishing for a home near the waves if she could
and soothed herself just to dream of the day
she'd dive into the wealth of the deep

On A Page

If nightmares were cobwebs I'd be wrapped up tight
and if wishes were fishes I'd be fed all night
and if mountains were molehills I'd never stumble
but I seem to be always about to crumble
into words
filling spaces
on a
page
If love made us stronger I'd surely be braver
and if mercy was common I'd be a Savior
and if reason was practiced I'd be one of the wise
but seems I'm a fool now in the disguise
of a poet
filling spaces
on a
page
If memories were coffins I'd have been buried by now
and if doubts were on fire I'd have burnt my house down
and if hope were a butterfly it'd still be a caterpillar
caught stuck waiting and growing bitter
spitting words
filling spaces
on a
page

Pinocchio

Pinocchio, have you found a doll to be your dearest friend?
I learned long ago to call your wooden arms my home, my friend
I would untangle your strings
and tell you of a world you did not know
and I would say, would say, would say
Pinocchio, Pinocchio
One day a boy for real you will be

Pinocchio, have you found a new marionette to hold you?
I learned long ago to dance with you gently, guiding you
I would repaint your faded parts
and tell you of a world you longed to know
and I would say, and I'd always say
Pinocchio, Pinocchio
One day a boy for real you will be

Oh, have you found another to pull upon your strings?
I would have crafted for you paper wings
and I would remind you of wishing stars up high
and tell you of a hope I had of which you knew not why
Pinocchio, Pinocchio
One day a boy for real you will be
And side by side and no strings to guide
you will walk hand and hand with me

Pinocchio, have you found a doll to know?
Have you found someone who you want to know?
I would still untangle all your strings
and tell you of a world I wish to show
here I am to say, to say, to say
Pinocchio, Pinocchio
One day a boy for real you will be
and I hold to hope for this reality
and upon a star I wish for you, for me
but please don't let someone walk you away.....from me

Rock Bottom Dawn and Death Shoulders

"Little Deaths"

I don't know why we struggle as we do with broken hearts
Or why we carry the weight of past pains on our backs
but I know why we leave behind pieces and parts
and why there are deep stains in our tracks
For within each ache and hurt is a death of our soul
and we lose something we never gain back
with each little death there is left a small hole
a memory showing us what we now lack

7/24/12

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Bony Shoulders"

Her pale skin is not like alabaster, but more like plaster
or sun bleached earth
it seems quite pasty and flaky and speaks of death
Her bony shoulders and frail frame beguile
for she's an evil Dame
Her spirit is not one, but two, and each hold arrows
and each subdue
She walks along and drags a chain
the chain is made of bones unnamed, and from her wrists
she has the lives of many fallen to her lies
but as she goes, her pieces fall
and leave a trail of death
and she alone knows each by name
they no longer have life for breath
Her eyes are cold, her heart is green, her essence only that of mean
and when you see her
look away
for she will come back again for you someday

7/23/12

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Rock Bottom"

wrap the chain around my ankle
and wrap the rope about my wrist
tape my eyes closed forever
and rip my soul out with your fist
bury me beneath the lost dreams of my illusions
drown me in the broken moments of confusions
and end me and my all
and watch me as I fall
into rock bottom

sew my lips together with twine
and cement my feet to fall into the sea
change my name and what I am
and erase the traces of what was me
bury me beneath the lost dreams of my illusions
drown me in the broken moments of confusions
take me, take it all
and erase me as I fall
back into rock bottom

it's so stark and empty
and full of nothing new
a silence oh, so deadly
without a hopeful view
I will not break free from these chains
nor erase the past of pains
I cannot stand up
if you end me
with rock bottom

"Blame the Dawn"

I crawled over the ground, glass strewn around
while the sky
was breaking down
there was a sea inside of me
and a pitiful aching
and there was the dawn that came and took the night away
and you sailed away
and left me waiting
as I bled I turned to hating
like the poison ate at me
There was no hope but broken shards
and breaking hearts
and the morning sun
and I hated that my wishing stars had fled and run
You sailed away on a trip towards the distant light
and I alone with bleeding knees
learned my plight
I crawled away that fateful day and learned to hate
and let that part of me go, away the poison ate, and so
I have known something of the loss of hope
My wishing stars are now all gone
I blame the dawn
I blame the dawn

Greatest Ache

alabaster cities may often gleam
and stars might grant some wishes
but things aren't always as they seem
when seeking gold you might find fishes

sometimes when doors close no others open
and when mirrors shatter you just get cut
be careful what you place your hope in
or else you might be stuck in a rut

but of all the things one learns in life
one is hardest to swallow down
it aches and causes deepest strife
and places on you an eternal frown

it's not a love to make you boast
the greatest ache your heart will feel
is knowing those that you love most
do not in turn love you for real

they seem to you that they love you some
but walk away seeking another place
and when you call they do not come
nor to you show their true face

the greatest ache your heart will feel
is the hardest lesson felt inside
knowing you're not loved by them for real
but have been sadly set aside

Are We Blind Embracing Wind?

"Embrace the Wind"
Under summer heat I want to bathe my feet
in new grass and rocks and tree roots
I want to photograph fairies
and go and visit a new sea
I want to stand tall on rocks
and embrace the wind
I need to feel the wind
I want underneath the summer heat to feel
something relaxed and tranquil
and I wish to follow stars
beneath a different sky
Oh, why, oh, why
tell me, tell me
is it so hard for me to go away from here? you see
I wish so very bad to bathe my soul in glad far from here
inside a greener sphere
I would like to visit the places I've wanted to visit for so very long
but how, oh how, can I make it more than just words in a song?
I don't know how....
but I want it now

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Braille"

I shall pet the elephant and name him Braille
and I shall feed him grapes and summer ale
and when he follows me towards the sea
I should like to think he came along for me
I will watch him as he watches the waves crest
I will tell him the truth about the heart in his chest
and when the sun sets and we must travel home again
I will place him back on the rug in the center of the room

Stillness in Her Soul

she seeks refuge in the water
seeks a stillness in her soul
she is breaking and going under
for so long hasn't been whole
they had all mocked her weakness
pointed fingers at her lonely frame
she would cower in the corners
they won't even recall her name
leave her be and let her grow up
let her find her way on her own
she has battled her demons so long
and inside how much she's grown
she seeks refuge by the shoreline
seeks a stillness in her heart
she is waiting on her one ship
the better half of her, the other part
they had mocked her and her wishes
they had made her scream and cry
but she is stronger now on her own
and has a new reason to try

You Are Anchoring Me

He was a liar and a thief
The substance in the bottom of my grief
The collector of the memories I seek
to put away
and bury now
He was so foolish and so weak
The absence of the innocence I'd keep
The locator of the fears in me
to wall away
for years I was

But you are like an anchor I hold onto
Sometimes I cannot move
Sometimes I see my doom
But then when the stormy seas surround me
You hold me close and safe
I can ride out all the waves
You are anchoring me
For I'm adrift in this sea

He was a giver of promises in bed
A phantom in the shadows in my head
The maker of the futures I could see
Just to bury me
inside this grief
He was a warrior for an unknown risk
Like a collector of every single wish
Just to throw them all away
I was born to say
Just his name

He called me out to sea
I built this boat to be
only his, only his and his alone

But you became the anchor I hold onto
Sometimes I can hardly move
Sometimes I still fear my doom
But when the stormy seas surround me
You keep my close and safe
While I ride out the waves
You are anchoring me
Because I'm still adrift in this sea

Too many reasons for this bitter end
Lies and promises are now forgotten
They spoke in pretty words
Creating for me their worlds
and futures full of hopes to keep
I thought I had it made then
But ended in this ocean
Holding onto a boat of dying dreams
Like I'm floating away in silent screams
until you came...and anchored me

You are the anchor I hold onto
Even in the times I cannot move
Even though I may still fear my doom
When all the stormy seas surround me
I know you will keep me safe
Stay with me as I ride these waves
You are anchoring me
For I'm adrift in this sea
Please....stay with me

Walls of My Rome

"Wrong is in these Walls"

you are in every wrong thing in the world
a sickly snatcher of the soul
a trick in the lights and a false sign
leading to a false way home
you are a master of deceit
on your tongue is painted lies
and in your fingers are the ruins
of the fools who met demise
nasty breaker of the hearth
ruining warmth and comforts there
like an evil little ghoul
setting the world on fire here
oh, the hapless are your tools
made them play the lies you ate
and when we all turn up as fools
bathe our whole lives in hate
because we let you
yes, we let you
let the wrong inside the walls

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Downfall Of My Rome"

a needle in your side
becomes the crossbow arrow
shot right through your core
and pained though you may be
nothing compared to my loss
the hourglass is lying
I am sure
a thimble full of wishes
becomes the downfall of my Rome
somehow I let this happen
never wanting so much heartache
and this undying loss
the hourglass must be lying
or we are doomed

Lighthouse, Keep the Cargo on the Boat Safe

"Cargo"

push the boat out to sea
it's holding cargo
cargo dear to me
push the hopes towards a dream
it's holding futures
futures I did see
push the boat into the sea
it's holding love
love escaped from me
push the wishes towards one thing
but bring it home
home safely
push the boat into the sea
it's holding cargo
cargo dear to me
push the hopes towards a dream
and let it bloom across
across the sea

"Your Lighthouse"

you left to go and it's a stormy place
don't be afraid for I am always near
when it's dark I will be the light
and when you want to come back home just follow me
I will shine no matter day no matter anything that could come along
I will be the light leading you along
you left and I will miss your pretty face
don't you fret for I'm not leaving here
when it's stormy I will be the light
when you want to come back home please follow me
I will shine no matter rain no matter anything that could stop me
I will be here always, always shining
I will no leave until you arrive safely

Goodbye Wayfarer

"Wayfarer"

Wandering like a wayfarer
I seek you out,
I search about
Whimpering inside of me
asking
Where are you?
Traveling, I'm the wayfarer
I need you now
so I search around
Whispering hopes in me
Liberating
just to find you
I become the wayfarer
Seeking you out
Still looking now
Wishing here inside of me
Coalescing
now with you
now with you
I found you

"No Goodbye"

Hello, goodbye
nothing inbetween?
Where are the times
and what does this mean?
Why have you gone without
a goodbye?
Why am I left asking empty air why?
Hello, farewell
no more to say
What ever happend to us
and why did it happen this way?
What made you leave giving
no farewell?
Left with this empty air feeling like hell
I ask
hello? goodbye?
no farewells and no hi's
and where have you gone?
Where did we go wrong?
Hello, goodbye
no more to say
Whatever happened to us
and what made it all this way?
What made you leave
giving no farewell?
Come back to me so we can end this right
...in a goodbye

If I Could Only Sing a Gold Wish of Home

"Wish"

i wish i could wrap you around me like a sweater
sit beside you in the rain
lay beside you with no pain
i wish
i wish i could kiss you between your eye brows
walk beside you as i sing
make you feel like a king
i wish
i wish i could make you see how beautiful you are
hide away beneath the trees
kiss in the grass on our knees
i wish
i wish i could make you linger here forever and a day
sleep in cotton with no stress
know that i'll never love you less
i wish
i wish that you could see what this could be somehow
sharing thoughts and emotions together
writing our own version of forever
i wish, i wish, i do

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Gold"

Red, ribbons, orange and gold
pale, palest pink
safe in the warmth
inside grey and greens abounding grace
and feeding off of nothing
leave this place
waves of wonder bringing salt kissed
stones to my footsteps
follow me and like a flame
i'm leading you
risk it on the concrete
and leave it on the road
bask inside the silence which is gold
ivory and olive and intertwining grace
fiery and seductive and
a story on the way
red, ribbons, orange and fleeting
like running in gold fields again
and sitting lonesome sorry
on a rock i cannot bend
pale, palest pink
and leave the deeper hue beside
and ask the stars to gather
tell the future of the light
darker than the depths of the ocean
and brighter than the sun
further than mountains travel
and wither they go is
undone
flashes of metal and glass
and airborne in the clouds
settle back down
and come around, around
settle back down
whispered sound
through your thoughts like gold

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;

"Home"

the irony, the epiphany that came
the subtle hushed tones
of a whispering dame
light the cornerstone
and place it where it goes
and build a home
and build a home
the imagery, the symphony of truth
the barest whisperings aloud
and portraying youth
fill the walls all around
and feel the movement sold
and claim this home
and claim this home

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"If I Could Only Sing"

she never had the music quite right
sang off key in words we never knew
and i was singing like a skylark
like i could only sing...
and still the wind took the song from me
poetry, poetry, poetry
and i not a reason why, nor a rhyme
quite right
and so it goes the poems i never knew
are the patterns sewn away just for you
if i could only sing...
without the wind stealing words from me

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"If I Could Only Sing a Gold Wish of Home"

If I could only sing a gold wish of home
I'd sing like the words would never fail
and the voice escaping me would paint the dingiest of grey
in golden warmth to light your way home
If I could ever sing a gold wish of home
I'd sing forever louder than the last song
and the music I would make would light this sorry roof
and the golden beams would guide you back home
I wish I could sing in golden beams of home
