Autumn Flight

Autumn leaves are falling
in the windy breeze
in spirals they are blowing
a masterpiece in leaves
the colors are russet and gold
brown, yellow and red
striking, beautiful and bold
to land upon your head
to fall upon the ground
and dance across your sight
a soft and quiet sound
is their yearly autumn flight

Common Anchor

"Rarity Is Not Common"

There you are building a castle in the sand
when you could have built the greatest stone mansion in the land
There you go claiming you found your wishing star
when all you did was capture a firefly inside a jar
Silly fool, you think you know it all now, don't you?
Justify what you did to her so you can prove
you weren't the fool, you weren't wrong
like you were the victim there all along
There you are claiming you found a pot of gold
but I see corn in a barrel now rotten and old
So go ahead and prance around like you're the wise
and I'll await the day you finally realize
You traded rarity for something common

"Sinking by an Anchor"

martyrdom
I will go down with this
drown by this
or be consumed by it
my pendulum
is knocked down by this
do I exist
beyond any of it?
I will hold on to this love like an anchor to sink me now
and drown in the bottom of the sea I made for you and me
I in my back and forth have fallen deeper still
with no thought of letting go; no strength of will
martyrdom
For this cause I will die by this
drowning bliss
to be consumed by it
my pendulum
is knocked down by this
I do not exist
beyond any of it
I am only knots and strings tied to this sinking thing
taking me down and down in the sea I made for you and me
I in my back and forth have fallen deeper still
with no thought of letting go, no, I never will
No, I never will

Artist and Watercolor

"If I were an Artist"

If I were a sculptor I'd carve you in stone
and chisel you out a mouth
and place you in my home
and you'd stare back at me
and you'd smile just for me
and I'd forever be lucky to see
you carved happy
If I were a painter I'd paint you on canvas
and color you like the spring
and place you in my home
where you'd stare back at me
and you'd smile just for me
and I'd forever get to see
a painting of happy
If I were a poet I'd write a poem for you
and tell the world what I love
and place you in me home
and capture in words the feeling of you smiling
and tell them what it means when you smile for me
and I'd capture forever in words that I'm happy
a poem of happy
I'd write just for you
Oh, if I were an artist, I'd be able to keep
forever the memory of you happy with me

"Autumn Watercolor Golds"

At the dawn on the road I await it
the fog to settle and sit
and the autumn rains to come
and wet the leaves like watercolor golds
I await the deepest reds and
I want to number the oranges
and capture in colors
while wearing my coat
the feeling of Autumn and
what I love most
and run, run, run, run, run
in the fog and the autumn rains
and watch the world become
watercolor golds
and when I stop and stare
I want to see standing there
a home waiting to welcome me

Too Late at the Edge For You Bringing Spring

"To Me You They'll Bring"

If I take a moment
to imagine you
I see a street sign
and a sky of blue
I see it marked west and leading
but where to?
but where to?
I follow roads, paths, and pointed signs
I follow maps, and feelings, and lines
I never quite get back to you
Lover, where have you gone to?
I shall take a moment to imagine you
I see your smile, hear your laugh, see your eyes
I see the way I was happy in happier times
I am holding to the image, like it's scarred upon me
Star crossed lovers we were, but what shall we be?
This world is pulling
This world is cold
This world too confusing
while I'm growing old
I shall send out a signal to the heavens this Spring
and I shall hope to me you they'll bring

"The Edge of Strong"

September, you were golds, you were summer colors fading away
bringing in the month of golden waves and ruddy tree lines
It was fun, so very fun, while it lasted
But it ended........again
Come the cooler month where we give thanks, I was feeling like
I might crumble
Seeing dirt, dark, and rubble
Then, yes, December came
I was nearly done
So close to being done
I could not feel that warmth and cheer
There was nothing to hold to
The new year was so cold, it was like I'd never know happiness again
Boarded up and snowed in
Winter has seemed so long
I know now the edge of where I'm strong
but Spring, bless you Spring
Bloom for me in hope and happiness
like promises
Bloom, bloom for me in greens
I am needing the promise of happier things
It's been too long
It's been so long
and I've reached the edge of strong

"10 Months Too Late"

Today...I woke in a mess and I was broken
too much stress, words unspoken
I'm so battle scarred
full of glares for my reflection
And while, while I drove too fast on these winding roads
Trees and houses passed me by blurring, oh
I realized one thing I never thought of before now
When I fell in love with you it was summertime, it's true
And I was seeing someone else then, someone fast and high and Mr. Fine
But he made me see you in a different light
Oh, but it was later I gained sight to finally see what was in front of me
And realized then that I loved you
But, oh but, oh but, I was 10 months too late dicovering
And there was nothing I could do, there was no recovering
Today...I discovered so much honesty, bleeding out of me
and I'm waking up to know where I have been
All the images blurred passed me fast, all the memories of the past
and I realized I'd loved you for so long, so very long
It took me 10 months to realize this and I think it's so wrong, I should have known
And then another 11 months to tell you so
Yes, I'm an oblivious fool, yes, I'm a riduculous fool
But today I discovered all of this....
...so tell me why, oh tell me why...
Why did it take me 10 months to realize?

Like a Rainbow

Love is like a rainbow
multicolored and hard to reach
it comes and goes and fades away
when you run towards it
Some says it promises gold
but can you get there, I don't know
Prismatic and illusive
ever changing and far away
Love is like a rainbow
follows the storms and the rains
like a sign from God and promise
but only for those who get to see it
Some say on the other side is luck
but will you find it, oh, I don't know
Translucent and uncommon
beautiful and far away

Sea Spinners

"Out to Sea"

Every time you are close to the shoreline
I fear you'll float out to sea
What's gonna keep you here in the sand
and not swimming from me?
Every night that the moon is out above
I fear you'll walk the long walk away
and you'll know nothing of love
So I'll tie you here to me like an anchor I'll be
I won't let you float out to sea

"Spinners of Gold"

October is for daydreamers and spinners of gold
It's for riot makers and crayon painters
and women loving colors bold
It's for freethinkers and leapers and lovers
and people born beneath the moon
It's for magic and mayhem and wanderers
and merrymakers playing a tune
It's for dancers aplenty beneath harvest red
a moon bathed in symbols of old
October is for candle jumpers, revelers and lights
lit by the spinners of gold

Cardinal

Cardinal, cardinal, tell me the reason
tell me the why and sing me a season
bring forth the rain on colors of gold
inside the richness bring oranges bold
When all this mess is hurting my soul
take back the wrong; make me whole
I'll watch from windows while you sing
offering to me hope born on a wing
Cardinal, cardinal tell me why life is
and why I can never, ever be his
I want the colors to explain to me why
In reds and golds and oranges high
Let them give words to the music you bring
Cardinal, cardinal bring love on a wing

Hello Autumn

mold your soul to the telephone pole
and leave your shoes in the dirt on the road
summer is leaving and sunlight decreasing
hello autumn
and hello gold
ditch your sandals for boots and for laces
here comes the cool air and the fun
mold your soul to the telephone pole
the leaves will be falling and ravens are cawing
the autumn horn is blowing while you wait
goodbye summer
goodbye old
ditch your sundresses for coats and leggings
here comes the cool air and the fun
mold your soul to the telephone pole
children will parade down here in masks
and upturn the pumpkins and bring on the ale
this is autumn folks, so beware
hello autumn
fun and cool air

Caviar and Winter Palaces

"Caviar and Winter"

you're like breast milk and honey
good for a time
but not enough to sustain
you're like springtime
beautiful, but lacking
the wisdom of age
I guess I'm caviar and winter
sharp, bitter, and strange
exquisite to someone
with impeccable tastes

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Traversed Palaces"

plucking from the music on my soul
memories
musings
and the tales I've not told
the essence of juniper
and moldings in gold
tile work and frescoes
and walls aged in stone
tissues
bring them and play me my rhymes
ask for the ladies who
danced in those times
and settle for nothing but tapestries
to see
the medieval workmanship of they
who knew how things could be
Amber and scarlet
and brocades in deep folds
and sheerest, of dearest, upon me they hold
the audience magnified by the mirrors in gilt
for I traversed palaces
and forgot all of it

all by me

If Venus Hated the Sun

It's like I'm your satalight and I
rotate around you like I can't be without you now
it's all a blur without you now
I'm collecting thoughts in my pocketbook
saving rocks that were the ones we took
when we played before
you've got me like a fool
trading roses for caricatures
and making murals out of my tears
and painting them in glitter and gold
and it was all sunshine before
but the light is getting old
So I chaffe and I pull
stuck on an axis I can't leave
It's between your gravity and your beauty
and I'm mesmerized to remain
You've got me leading lines into songs for you
and proclaiming the love that is never true
and it's all a blur here in this empty space
I begin to kick and fight at you
make you hurt the way I wanted to
and still the night with your screams
for me to shut up
you're pincushions for me to poke
the needles were the words I spoke
but I don't know what I'd do without you
I'm all around you
I am itching at my bindings and trading insults
and laughing at the way I load these catapolts
just to throw the stones at you
and watch the way my words hurt you
You've got me naming my scars in Greek
and singing the hymns of funeral rights
I am leaving the messes in a collage on the floor
and taking hammers to the tiles
breaking the sight
Until I want to see again your light
It's like I'm your satalight and I
rotate around you like I can't be without you now
and I want away from you now
So I fling the hurt at you
and hope the weight of guilt kills you
and I fight and pull and tug and break and bend
you became pincushions that I always poke
bleeding from the cruelties I spoke
loaded catapolts to tear down your walls
making the insults rip from you pleading calls
and hammer the surface of tile work depicting our life
your roses are dead, dear
and the rocks are in the ground
but I still can't break away
held bound
rotating around you like I cannot
get
away
if venus hated the sun, it would feel this way
Mesmerized by you I have to stay
making murals out of tears in glitters and gold
it's the mockery of a metaphor of your worth

If I Could Only Sing a Gold Wish of Home

"Wish"

i wish i could wrap you around me like a sweater
sit beside you in the rain
lay beside you with no pain
i wish
i wish i could kiss you between your eye brows
walk beside you as i sing
make you feel like a king
i wish
i wish i could make you see how beautiful you are
hide away beneath the trees
kiss in the grass on our knees
i wish
i wish i could make you linger here forever and a day
sleep in cotton with no stress
know that i'll never love you less
i wish
i wish that you could see what this could be somehow
sharing thoughts and emotions together
writing our own version of forever
i wish, i wish, i do

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Gold"

Red, ribbons, orange and gold
pale, palest pink
safe in the warmth
inside grey and greens abounding grace
and feeding off of nothing
leave this place
waves of wonder bringing salt kissed
stones to my footsteps
follow me and like a flame
i'm leading you
risk it on the concrete
and leave it on the road
bask inside the silence which is gold
ivory and olive and intertwining grace
fiery and seductive and
a story on the way
red, ribbons, orange and fleeting
like running in gold fields again
and sitting lonesome sorry
on a rock i cannot bend
pale, palest pink
and leave the deeper hue beside
and ask the stars to gather
tell the future of the light
darker than the depths of the ocean
and brighter than the sun
further than mountains travel
and wither they go is
undone
flashes of metal and glass
and airborne in the clouds
settle back down
and come around, around
settle back down
whispered sound
through your thoughts like gold

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;

"Home"

the irony, the epiphany that came
the subtle hushed tones
of a whispering dame
light the cornerstone
and place it where it goes
and build a home
and build a home
the imagery, the symphony of truth
the barest whisperings aloud
and portraying youth
fill the walls all around
and feel the movement sold
and claim this home
and claim this home

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"If I Could Only Sing"

she never had the music quite right
sang off key in words we never knew
and i was singing like a skylark
like i could only sing...
and still the wind took the song from me
poetry, poetry, poetry
and i not a reason why, nor a rhyme
quite right
and so it goes the poems i never knew
are the patterns sewn away just for you
if i could only sing...
without the wind stealing words from me

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"If I Could Only Sing a Gold Wish of Home"

If I could only sing a gold wish of home
I'd sing like the words would never fail
and the voice escaping me would paint the dingiest of grey
in golden warmth to light your way home
If I could ever sing a gold wish of home
I'd sing forever louder than the last song
and the music I would make would light this sorry roof
and the golden beams would guide you back home
I wish I could sing in golden beams of home
