Ripped Friendship Flag

Why Friend, are you friends with my enemy?
Does that mean you are not the friend of me?
Does it mean you trade secrets like spies?
Does it mean you spill words as lies?

Why Friend, are you staring there at me?
What are you thinking looking at me hatefully?
Does it mean you no longer feel the same?
Does it mean you look away in shame?

Why are you so silent now?
What has happened and how?
Where does this leave us?
What happened to trust?
Why are you walking away?
What words will make you stay?
Shall I just let you go?
I do not know
I do not know

I tried so hard to sail this sinking ship
It's going down too fast
Just a friendship flag for a sail that has a rip
and I know that it won't last

Why Friend, are you friends with my enemy?
Does it mean you no longer care for me?
Does it mean you laugh behind my back?
Talking about everything that I lack?

Why Friend, are you bad mouthing me?
What are those words you keeping saying?
Does this mean nothing we had is worth it?
Are you walking away, did you quit?

Why are you so silent now?
What has happened and how?
Where does this leave us?
What happened to trust?
Why are you walking away?
What words will make you stay?
Shall I just let you go?
I do not know
I do not know
I tried so hard to sail this sinking ship
It's going down too fast
Just a friendship flag for a sail that has a rip
and I know that it won't last
There's a storm out there tearing us apart
too many waves crashing 'round
and I am sinking with my broken heart
while you never make a sound

Why are you so silent now?
What has happened and how?
Why are you walking away?
What words will make you stay?
Shall I just let you go?
I think I must let you go

Time Burdens

"Burdens"

Your burdens on your back are glue to you
like tar but drenched in a hue
that resembles a berry wine
They weigh you down and hold you back
to convey now what you lack
with the ability to say you're fine
They feel so heavy, feel like stones
sing a song that sounds like moans
with your burdens burying you
They weigh you down to sink you dead
beneath the ground above your head
those burdens know what to do
they weigh on you
they weigh on you
So peel them off and throw them down
and trample them, do not frown
but step away and raise your arms
With lighter thoughts and freedom songs
you'll walk away from all those wrongs
no need to hear their loud alarms
just walk away
just walk away
they weighed on you too long, I'd say
just walk away

"Take Your Time"

Graze my shoulder, trace my spine
Lay your head against mine
Take me slow, take your time
Darling, you’re in your prime
Like a dance, like we dine
Let our movements intertwine
If we rush it would be a crime
So take me slow, take your time
Mold your mouth against mine
I will hold no caution sign
Take me slow, take your time
Play my body until I chime
There will be no final finish line
Until we count to sixty-nine
Oh, take me slow, oh take your time
Do not rush this upward climb
Like a smooth, rich, perfect wine
Savor every moment we combine

Common Anchor

"Rarity Is Not Common"

There you are building a castle in the sand
when you could have built the greatest stone mansion in the land
There you go claiming you found your wishing star
when all you did was capture a firefly inside a jar
Silly fool, you think you know it all now, don't you?
Justify what you did to her so you can prove
you weren't the fool, you weren't wrong
like you were the victim there all along
There you are claiming you found a pot of gold
but I see corn in a barrel now rotten and old
So go ahead and prance around like you're the wise
and I'll await the day you finally realize
You traded rarity for something common

"Sinking by an Anchor"

martyrdom
I will go down with this
drown by this
or be consumed by it
my pendulum
is knocked down by this
do I exist
beyond any of it?
I will hold on to this love like an anchor to sink me now
and drown in the bottom of the sea I made for you and me
I in my back and forth have fallen deeper still
with no thought of letting go; no strength of will
martyrdom
For this cause I will die by this
drowning bliss
to be consumed by it
my pendulum
is knocked down by this
I do not exist
beyond any of it
I am only knots and strings tied to this sinking thing
taking me down and down in the sea I made for you and me
I in my back and forth have fallen deeper still
with no thought of letting go, no, I never will
No, I never will

Serpent Heart

Your serpent heart in coils and scales
is ravishing these wishing wells
and I am waiting on the roses to sing
Your fishy words and spectre movements
like a serpent in the currents
I am waiting on the waves to bring
my body to the shore
to the islands seeking more
to the moment where my feet sink into dirt
but by and by the waves roll high
and crash me on and on and I
am tossed to and fro while getting hurt
Your serpent heart in coils and scales
seeks me out, no protective whales
come to save me from your leering ways
Your forked tongue and evil wiles
lead me down depths for miles
I am waiting for a bubble to bring
my body to the shore
to the islands seeking more
where roses bloom when my feet sink into dirt
where by and by the clouds roll high
and sunlight comes with love and I
am no longer tossed about getting hurt

Chess by the Sea

Lately I have been unkind and wasted
Wanting what my hands cannot hold to
Your vessel is adrift and I am cloaked here
hiding my face and not turned towards you
The howling winds of southern skies are calling out my name
the whispers in the whimpering lies are taunting in their game
Your vessel is sinking and I am playing chess
with the shells on the shore in a mess
Lately I have lost my mind and waited
For the time when my hopes all came true
Your vessel sinks below the waves before me
and here I am and what else shall I do?
The howling winds of southern skies are singing my shame
they whisper with wicked lies inside their taunting game
I am losing all my ways while wasting my time
with shells on the shore in such a crime
Lately I have been a sorry sight ill fated
Wanting what my hands cannot hold to
Your vessel is gone below the sea waves
while I had stood hiding my face from view
The howling winds of southern skies have given me a name
the whispers in the whimpering lies is that my name is Shame
Your vessel sunk while I made a game with a mess
of shells and called them my pawns like chess
thinking I could somehow love you less
to love you less...........
Lately I have lost my mind and waited
For the time when my hopes all came true
But as the night fell upon me and turned this to darkness
I looked upon the waves, but where were you?
The howling winds of southern skies don't call my name
for they've silenced in their wicked lies, it's all the same
I lost my way and lost my time and lost you, too
while I played a game as fools often do
Thinking all my moments were like a game of chess
just to let you sink to somehow love you less

Poetry

Maybe for some words just aren't enough
unless they spill from pretty lips
into sound
Maybe for some words just aren't enough
when evidently it's all in pictures that
proves profound
Maybe for some poetry is meaningless
rhyming words on paper no one
wants wasted
Maybe for some poetry is meaningless
emotions bounding across paper in
ink saturated

But there are they who feel the words
cling to their souls like breaking fingers
cling to ledges
There are they who want to sink the
outline of the letters into their skin
in bloody edges
There are they who feel the depth of loss
and love, and light and freedom
sprawling outward
in words and rhymes and lines and letters
proclaiming with open abandon
in written word

It's keener edged than sword and steel
and more forceful to make you feel
and yet is overlooked and passed on by
for a pretty face and a wanton eye
in lighted images we all take in
the exoneration of sin
is better yet by far to most who see
than reading words of poetry

Built Sleep

"Sleep"

Rest your head by the sea
Sleep, oh sleep away from me
Near the city of Angels
Rest your weary head
and dream
Come tomorrow dawn the day with hope and laughter
Come tomorrow brighter, better and here after
We will look back upon these days
and know how much has changed
for the better
Rest those eyes
Sleep and please realize
As you're near the great Pacific
Rest your weary head
near the ocean tides
Come tomorrow dawn the day with hope and laughter
Come tomorrow, brighter, better for here after
We can look back upon these days
and know all that has changed
for the better
So, sleep, sleep, sleep and enjoy dreams
I will sleep here near mountain streams
You near the grandest of oceans, rest your eyes
I will sleep away from you but I realize
Come tomorrow dawns a new day with hope and laughter
Tomorrow will be brighter and better for here after
We will look back upon all these days
and know how much has changed
and it's better

"Built"

I was built to listen and to think
You might have been built to make me sink
You might have been built to break down my walls
You might have been built to drown out my calls
But I was built to stand with a light
You were built with brilliant eyes for sight
So use your eyes and if you would like to follow me
I was built to be a beacon and placed by your sea
You were built to carry the weight in your vessel
You were built with troubles for you to wrestle
I was built to say I'm here to be your guide
You were built to last and I'm still on your side
I was built to listen and I'm lonely
I was built to shine and sometimes to sing
You might have been built to try to break me apart
But you were built to make me try harder to use my heart
I was built to say all that is true
You were built for bravery in what you do
I was built to be a guide right here
Built strong and steady with a purpose clear
