Not Alone

We're all backed into corners, clothes caught on nails
in loose floor boards, strength failed, sick with ails
There are shadows beneath us and dark figures ahead
Words spent in music that clatters inside our head
We're trying to find someone whose demons can play
well with our own so we can all come as we may
into the sunlight, full sight, nothing to hide
no need to lock doors, build walls; confide
and tell them the truth, tell them the past, the pain
let their dark moments dance with our own in rain
but we're sitting in corners with our knees in our chests
baring our scars to the room like they are our crests
saying "this is war, whose side are you on?"
telling the shadows like they haven't won
Loads of moments, troubles, high - dirty hair falling out
you scraped the bottom, your faith swallowed in doubt
We're all seeking for someone who has demons like our own
who can pull out the weeds from our gardens overgrown
and tear down our walls and unlock our doors; set free
with full sunlight, truth blaring, a moment we can be
ourselves - free, able to stand and face the day knowing
someone like us is out facing the day, too, showing
we're not alone.

Time Burdens

"Burdens"

Your burdens on your back are glue to you
like tar but drenched in a hue
that resembles a berry wine
They weigh you down and hold you back
to convey now what you lack
with the ability to say you're fine
They feel so heavy, feel like stones
sing a song that sounds like moans
with your burdens burying you
They weigh you down to sink you dead
beneath the ground above your head
those burdens know what to do
they weigh on you
they weigh on you
So peel them off and throw them down
and trample them, do not frown
but step away and raise your arms
With lighter thoughts and freedom songs
you'll walk away from all those wrongs
no need to hear their loud alarms
just walk away
just walk away
they weighed on you too long, I'd say
just walk away

"Take Your Time"

Graze my shoulder, trace my spine
Lay your head against mine
Take me slow, take your time
Darling, you’re in your prime
Like a dance, like we dine
Let our movements intertwine
If we rush it would be a crime
So take me slow, take your time
Mold your mouth against mine
I will hold no caution sign
Take me slow, take your time
Play my body until I chime
There will be no final finish line
Until we count to sixty-nine
Oh, take me slow, oh take your time
Do not rush this upward climb
Like a smooth, rich, perfect wine
Savor every moment we combine

Poetry

Maybe for some words just aren't enough
unless they spill from pretty lips
into sound
Maybe for some words just aren't enough
when evidently it's all in pictures that
proves profound
Maybe for some poetry is meaningless
rhyming words on paper no one
wants wasted
Maybe for some poetry is meaningless
emotions bounding across paper in
ink saturated

But there are they who feel the words
cling to their souls like breaking fingers
cling to ledges
There are they who want to sink the
outline of the letters into their skin
in bloody edges
There are they who feel the depth of loss
and love, and light and freedom
sprawling outward
in words and rhymes and lines and letters
proclaiming with open abandon
in written word

It's keener edged than sword and steel
and more forceful to make you feel
and yet is overlooked and passed on by
for a pretty face and a wanton eye
in lighted images we all take in
the exoneration of sin
is better yet by far to most who see
than reading words of poetry

How I Adore You

You're the pinnacle of my desire for love
the culmination of struggle and anguish
In you I found rebirth
I was set free from the captivity of foolish loving
and born again in despair
I have tasted the essence of the Atonement in you
and languished in hope and fought to keep it
There is not a fibre in me that does not love you
You are the Northern Star to which I set my life towards
How great the capacity I have acquired for love
I have been reborn in a new type of beauty
It is rare and stricken in grief and longing
You're the absolution
the astounding miracle of life
You teach me of love and hope and freedom and forgiveness
and you are barely here at all
How much more could you change me if you were always at my side?
I should think I would burn into a star
to which other hope filled lovers set their sites on
If I ever knew anything at all of love, it was erased in you
and reborn into freedom
How I adore you, there are no words, but the solemn whisperings of my soul
These things, these things you do not know
My lips cannot utter how very profound your presence in my life has become
If ever I erred, it was in not loving you sooner

Summer Eagles

So it goes, when you twist and break your bones
I am bent over telephone poles
and seeking sunny skies
I'm pulling wagon wheels
and you're scraping for better meals while they sit and cut your hair
There are opossums a'plenty and banjos galore
and seasons that change before you had asked for more
There are red laces in green grass and eagles to your right
with victims in their sharp beaks and freedom in their sight
So it goes, when you leap and don't land on your toes
You end up bleeding in your roles
and seeing every one's lies
You're getting sick on dandelion weeds
and using toothpicks to cut away the reeds down by this pond
There is nothing more for you here other than the tombstones
and runners leaping barriers while seeking higher thrones
There's balloons forgotten in the trees and eagles to your right
their eyes are saying you are the fool while freedom was in sight
So it goes, you come just like the new wind blows
while I have been digging a dozen holes
to say just how time flies
I was making wooden baby cribs
and singing lullabies in worn out wigs beside this forgotten place
There is nothing but the weeds and wagons, boots and dragons here
and runners singing folklore songs while grinning ear to ear
There's dandelions in my hair and a scar across my heart
while you are looking at the markings left after the part
There's blood in patches on the porch and eagles to your right
with banners blaspheming folly and mocking the freedom in your sight
Since you ran away and left it good and dead
when you never even heard a word I'd said
about broken bones and bitter words and bread
