From: "Elegy of Metaphors"

like fire lights inside chasms of burnt orange
melodic, transcending; sunrise in a whirlwind
escape; freethinking with a notion of cynicism and fault
take it back, cardinal, and give a new face to the ashes here
volcanic and incredible
wishing on sunlit skies, jetted by, and passing strange
this masquerade of ours
erupting into a molten mess of monarch butterflies
tinged in burnt orange and black
fly away and take wing into the sea of setting suns
volcanic was the ending

and from that, the island sprung

Purple Spoon

Collect your feathers and just fly from here
I can't take your songs anymore
I was blinded but now I see clear
I know what you did this for
I won't eat from your purple spoon anymore
Or listen to your silver tongue
I am done
I am done
Collect your letters, do not leave them here
I won't see that mess anymore
I won't worry or be full of fear
I won't settle out this score
I won't eat from your purple spoon anymore
Or listen to your silver tongue
Oh, I am done
Yes, I am done
You're a silver tongued vulture in the night
Tearing my heart out with each new bite
And you feed me off your royal spoon
Beneath a subtle shadowed moon
I will get better, once you're gone from here
I won't be poisoned anymore
I will be able to see things clear
Knowing what I am living for
I won't eat from your purple spoon anymore
Or listen to your silver tongue
I am done
Yes, I am done
I am done

Learn to Fly

He pushed you off the ledge, didn't he?
He flew with you a while, I did see
He became your wings
and your will to fly
Then he left you there to fall and die
I've been on the ledge before, you see
Several men before have pushed me
They gave me wings
so I could fly
Then they left me to fall from the sky
I've been where you are so to speak
falling from heights to make you weak
and still you long for the wings
that held you aloft so long
I've been where you are in a sense
where falling could never recompense
the gift that was those wings
that gave freedom for so long
But darling, you must learn to glide
whether with wings or the strength to survive
there's nothing but air around you
and the threat of the ground below you
so embrace the wind, embrace the sky
and soon you will learn on your own to fly
Stay clear of the ledges and don't look down
someday someone will come around
and fly by you
they'll fly by you
with wings they earned on their own
because they had to

Strange Halloween Salt

"Strange Wayfarer of Autumn"

Shave off your odd bits and break down your walls
but I can't carry the weight of your wounds anymore
and out on the foggy road strewn in autumn leaves
I'll let all the heavy burdens fall off of me
and I will walk away into the sunset knowing that
winter is coming and I am too weak
I can't hold you back
I will fasten wings for you
but they might look like those of a bat
and if someone should think you a demon
just know, I never wanted that
but I am a wayfarer and I am strange
and the woods were always my home
and after I broke down all your barriers
I still felt so very alone
I can't carry the weight of your wounds anymore
and this road is getting steep
I'll let the burdens all fall off of me
and climb this mountain peak
Winter is coming after these reds all fade
and I'm to weak and still too afraid
but I will fasten you wings I'll make
and I hope you won't scare anybody away
but I must walk on my way now
for the fog has settled on me
and this Autumn road is strange like me
but someday you'll fly back and lift me away....
...for out of your wounds I fastened those wings

"Here Comes Halloween"

Black roses and red leaves
and orange carved faces
with cobwebbed spider sleeves
and wrought iron fences
Darkness and harvest moons
with bats lining windows
Enchanting haunted tunes
and lanterns in rows
Sheets making ghosts
and painted ghoulish faces
and scarecrows on posts
and creepy haunting places
There goes a witch on by
Here comes a goblin in green
Did you hear a banshee cry?
Here comes Halloween

"Drink before the Salt"

I can't lead you to the water
and I can't make you drink
but I can feed you salt
and take you to the brink
and then when you are craving
something to quench your thirst
I will bring the rain down
so you won't think you're cursed
and drink, drink, drink, drink up darling
the water's falling
and it's time to be healed
so drink, drink, drink, drink darling
or I will bury your bones in salted earth

More Time for Angels to Die on the Horizon

"Do Not Ask an Angel to Die"

you do not ask butterflies to swim
then do not ask that of him
you do not ask polar bears to fly
then do not ever make him cry
you would not expect a moose to sing
then why demand what he can't bring?
if you will not ask a rose to blink
then why tell him what to think?
you do not ask angels to die
so, why do you even try?

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"...more time with you..."

sliding hands upward from the wooden floors
up along skin and upward behind closed doors
knees are bruised upon the hardwood
time is passing of what I would
be doing if I had more time with you
tracing shapes across your stomach slowly
regarding you in front of me like you're holy
knees are bruised upon the hardwood
time is passing of what I would
be doing if I had more time with you
breath, hot, and steamy leaving trails on skin
kisses linger and the scent I am calling a sin
knees are bruised upon the hardwood
but time goes by as it should
while I'm finally doing what I want with you
and my lips are soft all along your leg, along your thigh
and my breath is warm like a whispered kiss ever going high
and my tongue is hot and wet and it warms you to your core
and I bring you in and bring you down while you're wanting more
and I bring you in and bring you down until my knees are sore
and promptly sir, when I am through, yank me off the floor
for time is passing of what I would do
if I had more time with you

"Chase the Horizon"

Call her "Horizon" and chase her daily
try to catch her as she drifts away
For Horizon is ever ready to make you run and runaway
She'll bruise your feet upon the path leading towards her
She'll make you weak without a thought to not pursue her
and if you weep she will not be there to comfort you
She will be ever forward, what else shall you do?
Call her "Horizon" and chase her daily
and when you think you are closer
Horizon will break you barely hanging on and go ever faster
She'll knock you down and tear you apart upon her pathway
She'll break your heart as you keep going day after day
and if you think you finally will catch her you will cry
She's moved farther onward and she's going on by

Hurricane and Dirty Sea

he pulled you down
'til you tasted earth
and bitter stones
and tree root frown

and said he
inside of you
is like a hurricane
and the dirty sea

no more shall you
walk in my yard
nor open my doors
for you I never knew

he kicked your chin
and sent you off
some barren road
marked by a sin

and lo, I see
inside of you
is like a hurricane
and the dirty sea

you walk and cry
and sky rains down
and songbirds mourn
as they fly by

the trees all frown
and stars watch you
as you walk from home
on your way to drown

angels take you in
with arms full of love
and their divinest grace
overlooking sin

and they will be
calming inside you
the hurricane
and green tinged sea

and still your storm
and bring you home
and tuck you in
all safe and warm

and then wilt he
kneel by you
no more hurricane
nor a dirty sea

and say to you
in reverence and love
for you his child
invoking all that's true?

will say he
of your humble life
and all your dreams
beside the sea

that you his son
are forgiven now
and loved the more
after what is done?

and lo, I see
inside of you
was a hurricane
and a dirty sea

and on your shoreline
was a sad little boy
and a broken life
and a warning sign

but angels I did call
to bring you home
and heal your heart
and stop your fall

and still your storm
and bring you home
and tuck you in
all safe and warm

Turtle Dove Singing of a Hopeless Love

Partridge in the pear tree, tell me, tell me
Where has Cardinal gone?
Will he come back soon, I wonder?
Will his sojourn be long?
Sometimes birds have to fly away during winter
Maybe this place is too cold?
Will you wait here with me, Partridge?
I need someone to hold
I am just a turtle dove, waiting on the rain
but I fear the snow will come before I can say
"Spring is a new day, hello, hello Spring"
but I can't sing that welcoming song when the snow is on the way
Perhaps, I'll sing alone
Perhaps you'll leave me too
Cardinal has gone far away
and I don't know what to do
I have a nest to keep and I have a song to sing
the mourning song of wintertime
I am just a turtle dove singing of a hopeless love
and you're stuck in that pear tree
Do you, do you think it'll be OK come spring?
Do you, do you think I'll have a welcoming song to sing?
I am hoping for the rain...but there's snow on the way
Partridge, my feathered friend, how shall we weather on?
I am still singing a forgotten lonesome song
Do you think Cardinal will return to these trees?
I am hoping winter will somehow soon leave
I am just a turtle dove singing of a hopeless love
and you're just a partridge in a tree
Cardinal is a striking bird and he's flown from you and me
But maybe he'll return once I sing to welcome spring

Iron Ground

"Iron Gate"

You're a landscape photo of doom
A haunted corridor and frozen time
You're a dead flower never to bloom
and you won't claim what is mine
So step back here now
And wait
I will place up this gate
These iron bars spell out for you clearly
You cannot have what belongs to me
You're a collection of the dreadful ones
A nasty little thought inside your mind
You're the one choking out my lungs
and I am breaking down inside
So step back right now
And wait
I will place up this gate
These iron bars will explain it perfectly
You don't get to keep what belongs to me

"The Ground"

the ground is where we drag ourselves along
no flags of white
no freedom song
the ground is where we lay our souls
no words to save
no softer holes
the ground is where we leave behind hope
no ending light
no way to cope
the ground is where we see the sky
no way to reach
no time to fly
the ground is where we lay for sleep
no more pain again
no more fight to keep

Ruled by Logic

Sometimes I feel my voice is radio static to your ears
it's nonsense garbled within the wind
my words are thoughtless and tossed to and  fro
my purpose still unknown
I`m a carbon based lifeform ruled by logic, seeking perfect, and finding faults
I`m a dreamer needing reasons but finding dead ends...
and when I sort it out I might just be an echo on the wind
A problem never solved, riddle that was hard and an investigation of the heart
I will fill the silence with letters and speak in complicated terms
so these thoughtless words will die on my tongue in the air
When I figure it all out I will be invincible and free
and not chained to logical conclusions or meanings boxed and labeled
I will be like the bird who takes flight not needing to understand why it is that it can fly

Unforgiven Pollution Killed You

"The Pollution"

Acrid and unforgiving
it's choking
it's ending
it's spilling over the edges
gone beyond ledges
and leaped over hedges
and crept through these walls
and died

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Killed You"

I poisoned you
slowly
I opened you
with razors and ice
I wrapped you in webs and fed you to spiders
and when you screamed
I closed my eyes
I shattered you
quickly
like a vase on the table
I looked at a shard
contemplating the past and let it fall
I let it fall hard

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"Unforgiven"

I'm like the erupting volcanoes of Iceland
I blow, the ash settles and no planes can fly
I am like the flood waters that threaten
I wash away hopes and watch as they die
I am like the earthquakes that shake you
I often find buildings scattered and fallen
I'm like the tsunami that took away their world
I may never be loved nor be forgiven

Nothing Happy Here, Move Along Now Flightless Bird

ledges are for stopping
not for the jumping I do from them
and arms are for grabbing
not for trying to fly with them
legs are for running
they aren't landing gear
and we're meant for falling
that's what we should fear

4/8/11

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

if i attempt breathing with this
weight on me
i might sink my soul like an
anchor in the sea
i might forever remain in the
darkest of places
where there is no glory
nor smiling faces
if i attempt to continue like this
i won't realize i'll never be his

4/8/11

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

why don't you just tear my heart
out and eat it right
in front of
me?
then maybe I will realize my death
was always what you
sought when you
looked right
through
me

Spin Over the Canyon

“Done and Over”

So I’m the one to blame now, huh?
And I guess you want your way now, huh?
Well you better shut your mouth hun, I don’t play these games
And I won’t bend over backwards
I’m done
So I screwed it all up for you, I see
And you are blaming it all on me
But I won’t listen to a thing you say, a word you hold to
Shut up I’m through
I’m over it
You can't blame every little stupidity on someone else
You should look for the blame inside of yourself
I really don’t care if you cry or you scream
And I don’t care if this all ruins your dreams
It’s not my problem
It never was
So grow up and grow a pair
Learn to fix your only problems, dear
And get a life that’s not attached to mine
I don’t have the time for you or the patience to put up with you
I am so through
I’m done
And over it now

"Spin The Wheel"

the more we go the worse it gets
the longer time the more "forgets"
the wasted moments, mountain high
like we had tried to reach the sky
but better still the hard to place
thoughts we can never even trace
the endings we had never tied
and all these days we have lied
we tell ourselves it's all OK
like fools confused; go away
run from the knowlege you forgot
i'll try to place what i haven't got
and as time goes i can barely see you
it's all fading; but what is left true?
build a plane for me, my lover
somehow forget we had another
long before this; spin the wheel
and tell me what do you feel?
the problem with time is it all fades away
but i am sure i recall it all this way

“Canyon”

It hurts most days I wake up
And it aches before I sleep
And it haunts inside my dreams but I can’t shake this
You were just what I never looked at
And then suddenly everything I really needed
But there’s a canyon
In-between you and I

I wake most days with no luck
And it continues through the week
It’s the horrible cycle I repeat and I can’t shake it
You were not what I’d expected
But you became the reason I wanted to be
But there’s a canyon
Still between you and me

And I can’t fly and I can’t jump and I can’t build a bridge
And you won’t try when it’s not enough because of this
But I wanted so bad now
Yet it doesn’t matter now, I see
Because this canyon is always going to be
Between you and me

Catching Meteors With Lettuce

Foolish like you think you can jump off the ledge
And suddenly sprout wings to fly
You’re no dragonfly
Or albatross
You stupid imbecile learn the facts
You were never good at that
So quit making planes of paper and trying
To explore the world
Quit trying to reach the heavens
By searching for a sword
I am done with your stupidity and I cannot think at all
I asked you what you were up to now
And you replied “catching meteors”
Foolish like you think you can save humanity
You are only holding lettuce and
You’ve nothing to compete
There is something stupid in you
A dodo bird, I’m sure
You imbecile you have to learn people aren’t unstoppable
And flying off the cliff for you isn’t possible
You won’t be King Arthur or find a sunken land
And you cannot catch meteors holding lettuce in your hands
Foolish did you think yourself the mighty albatross
When you left across the bridge holding a bag of sand
You claimed to be stardust?
You had tied two purple strings to your finger just to claim
Royalty had always run straight through your veins
And at the bottom of the water drowned I had found you there
A sodden little bag of sand and a drowned head of lettuce
Clutched to your chest
You wore makeshift wings of paper that became your death
Foolish like you think you can jump off the ledge
I scream at you that “you’re no dragonfly
You imbecile”
I rave and scream at the stupidity in your dead face
And kick the head of lettuce and the wings that let you die
You were never very smart
And I begin to cry
But as the nighttime darkens and I watch the stars come out
I see a meteor shower and realize what this was all about
You were always on a fool’s errand and claiming you could be
Just like the heroes of old, but I wasn’t listening
Foolish here you thought you could actually fly
And stop the falling stars far off in the sky?
I should have realized before how far you might go
But I’m the fool now
I should have known

We Became the Madness

bathing in milkweed
and ashes
taking time
and breaking time
sipping on toothpaste
and mangos
loosing your mind
as I've lost mine
and terrible like the magics
inside of this wilderness
I am cowering inside of a cornfield
and feeling helplessness
became the madness
making paper dolls
calling them my friends and asking them to call
became the madness
making newspaper shoes
walking over quicksand holding the images of you
you're bathing in milkweed
and I am the ashes
you lost your mind
as I've lost mine
we became the madness
and use plastic spoons as wings to fly
walking through a cornfield thinking we are living life

A Bridge to Forever in the Sky

"Bridge"

Careful, bright and starry eyed
but at dismay for the sea is between us
and I want so bad to swim
and I know that I can't swim
Youthful, foolish and elf struck
I am feeling like falling through your essence
and I need so bad to touch you
and I know that I can't reach you
Damn this distance now
and make a bridge

"Envelope Me Within This Sky"

Terrible is the need for feeling
and horrible the thought of leaving
take my soul and give it wings to fly
and envelope me within this sky
like a songbird now free, uncaged
and a soul spent singing for escape
my spirit seeking yours is speeding by
now envelope me within this sky
and never leave my side

"Seeking Forever"

Like a classical portrait
your soul is painted across mine
and if forever is what we were seeking
then none of this matters this time
but finding your face in a sea of liars
and touching fingertips once more

A Reaching Bird that Flies and Sings in the Sky Towards You

"Fingerprints in the Sky"

Caught feeling like falling but needing the ledge
and wanting my feet to fly from the edge
The moments I spent trying to reach the sky
left fingerprints on the clouds that roll by

Elizabeth Azpurua

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

She is reaching and climbing and dancing along and found her muse in the words to a song; she carried the feeling and planted a tree that turned into birdsnests that sang for no fee. Her hope is a masterpeice, musical lore; she tells the tale often and lets the birds soar.

"Those Eyes...."

Harbinger of mercy
Master of light
Creator of my desires
in the dark of the night
Reflection in deep pools
King of my heart
Fighting for my salvation
like it's an art
Blue eyes in the memory
Deep though they go
Brings out all the wanting
to watch my soul grow
Brighter than lightning
Vaster than the sky
My soul just keeps reaching
Towards you

Airplane

She was going to take an airplane
to change her future
and to lift her heart on wings
She was going to take an airplane
to right a wrong
and to allow her heart to sing
But planes can go up in flames
just like love built upon lies

She was going to take an airplane
to make music in her head
and to let her heart carry her to peace
She was going to take an airplane
to fight away the frowns
and to let her heart and love be at ease
But planes can go up in flames
just like love built upon lies

Every coin, penny, nickel and dime
set aside for a fancy plane ride
to end her troubles and woes
and take away the sorrows
Every coin, penny, nickel and dime
spent elsewhere because that plane ride
never happened, never flew, never left
because hopes come and go for what's best
Planes can go up in flames
just like love built upon lies

She was going to take an airplane
and she was dreaming of the coast
and dreaming of the hope
never wanting to let go
She was going to take an airplane
and she was reaching out to hope
so she could wake up and she'd know
but now she'll never, ever go
now she'll never, ever know
Planes go up in flames
like love built on lies
Watch them fly away
and wave and say goodbye

Fly Catcher Boy

Livid you have made me
am I not so pretty to you?
Is there something in my countenance you fear?
Is there a reason you don't want
to sit down beside me now
and tell me pretty tales?
So you think that I must be lesser than
not greater than the others that
have graced your presence often?
What has happened to my grace and charm
that has made you shrink back and say those words?
Like I'm unemotional
or a robot
did you think it wouldn't hurt?
So stand there looking smug while I know
that all you are is a jerk with a face
carved by angels being daft
and so sit and I'll turn around and walk away and
maybe flip my hair so you'll recall what all the other's knew
I'll leave thinking I am just too much for you
and you can stand there looking like a fool
and catch flies in your mouth
